Several street lighting columns have been cut off and wrapped in warning tape in Oxhey Hall.
Old concrete columns across the county are being systematically tested and three in Hampermill Lane failed a structural test on 20 March. They were immediately ‘stumped’ that evening.
Frances explained to Cllr Ty Harris: “They are scheduled for replacement, and traffic lights will be needed to ensure sufficient road space for safe working. However there is an embargo on road space for temporary works in Watford until after the Orphanage Road bridge work ends in April, to try to minimise any additional congestion, so no replacement date has yet been confirmed.”
There is a programme to replace all the street lighting on Hertfordshire’s A roads with new Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). This is scheduled to start in Three Rivers next month. Meanwhile when street lights fail, the replacement bulbs will, where possible, be replaced with LEDs.
Ty says: “I am pleased the new lights will be LEDs, which are cheaper to run. You can see the difference because they give a very ‘white’ light compared with the current ‘yellow’ lights.”
