After twelve months of ducking and weaving, Watford Rural Parish Council has at last agreed to repair the Hampermill Lane bus shelter.
Originally the Parish Council wanted it demolished and replaced. They approached Frances for a County contribution towards a replacement cost of £6,542. Frances thought the traditional style blends well with the surroundings and also that this was too much for a new shelter, so she asked for the cost of a good repair.
While the Parish went ahead in South Oxhey, replacing one bus shelter and agreeing to install a second, Conservative Parish Councillors John Kyles and Irene Able were the lone voices demanding our bus shelter be repaired. After a year of indecision, and with the support of the Oxhey Hall Residents Association, success at last! At March’s meeting, the Parish accepted a quote of £1,060 plus VAT to replace damaged sidings, treat the timber and re-roof with shingles, thus restoring the shelter to good condition.
Local residents Ann Grant and Greg Barrow ask: “Should this bus shelter be listed”? Let us know what you think.
Does Watford Rural Parish Council give Oxhey Hall & Silk Mill value for money?
Its annual budget is £252,000. How much comes our way.
The Parish has paid thousands towards two new bus shelters in South Oxhey, but is still intending to ask for a contribution towards our Hampermill Lane bus shelter repair costing just over £1,000 from Frances’ Locality Budget and the Oxhey Hall Residents Association!
