Residents have raised concerns about how the charge could result in increased parking and congestion on the roads close to the car park. Furthermore, with the potential construction of the new hub by the pools, parking on the roads to the north of the park could also see increased use, especially as not all roads are covered by the controlled parking zone.
Last year, the council held consultations and road shows about the parks future, but only mentioned improvements to the car park, no charges were proposed.
Binita Mehta says “Charging people to park is not the best plan for the park or the surrounding roads. I favour the overall preservation and improvement plans, but have started a petition to rethink the parking charge.”
