Amber Rudd, Secretary of State for the Energy officially re-opened the bus shelter on Hampermill Lane on Thursday 21st April. The restoration and conservation of the original, characterful wooden bus shelter was 20% of the price of a replacement modern synthetic shell, which would have cost over £6,500.
John Kyles, candidate for Oxhey Hall in the local elections, insisted that a repair was a much more cost effective and sympathetic approach.
John Kyles said “Instead of spending over £6,500 we have been able to ensure that the bus shelter was repaired very well, and the community retains its original wooden bus shelter as well as saving tax-payers’ money. I’d like to thank the Secretary of State for coming to see the good work we have been able to achieve.”
Amber Rudd, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, said “This sort of practical and common sense approach to local government is just what Three Rivers District Council needs. Instead of spending over £6,500, John was able to ensure that the original shelter was properly repaired for years to come. Having had the opportunity to test the shelter out, I can say it is definitely up to scratch! John would be a fantastic addition to the council and a great champion for Oxhey Hall and Hayling.”
