More rhododendron control is needed in Oxhey Woods. In February, Hertfordshire’s Countryside Management Service is again arranging the removal and burning of areas of the invasive ‘rhododendron ponticum’ near the Sculpture trail in Oxhey Woods. Native birch and oak trees will recolonize these areas. The historic Rhododendron Walk will be conserved and, in a phased programme over several years, less aggressive ornamental rhododendron introduced. Frances says “Thanks to the Oxhey Woods Conservation Volunteers for all their work in this wonderful Local Nature Reserve”.
