Will there ever be a solution to the apparently age-old problem of the CourtlandsDrive/Hempstead Road junction?
Recently, when Linda and Andrew Mortimer were talking to a resident on the upper Hempstead (Service) Road, she complained about the infuriating problem of getting out of Courtlands Drive on to the Hempstead Road, not to mention the general snarl-up of traffic there, particularly at rush hour. Over the years, local Councillors have tried to sort out some solution to relieve the problem, but the Police will never permit the installation of traffic lights, and Herts Highways consider the location to be unsuitable for a mini-roundabout. It occurred to Andrew that vehicles turning left from Courtlands Drive into the main Hempstead Road are often held up by one or more vehicles waiting to turn right towards Hunton Bridge.
At certain times, this problem causes a whole string of traffic to back up, unable to turn left. Why can’t that large and untidy area be re- designed, so that drivers wanting to turn left can do so, unimpeded by the right-turners? This area to the side of Courtlands Drive appears to serve little purpose other than to accommodate a couple of signs and some weeds. Have a look and let us have your comments.
