Why has this happened?
Lib Dem controlled Three Rivers District Council chose to call in the Boundary Commission to reduce the number of Councilors. Fewer councilors means larger wards. Conservatives wanted to change to ‘all out’ District elections every four years which would have saved an additional £200,000 in each four-year cycle. Instead, the Lib Dems insisted on elections every year, so that one District member is up for election in each of three years, followed in the fourth year by the County Election. This made it harder to have smaller wards with two councilors.
How we got to this point
In January, the Lib Dems proposed that the Boundary Commission split Carpenders Park in half and combine one half with South Oxhey and the other with Oxhey Hall. Thank you to the hundreds of residents who signed the petition and sent in their comments. The Boundary Commission rejected that plan as they saw that Carpenders Park was a single community. However, to bring the number of residents to the required level, a small part of South Oxhey has now been added to the new Carpenders Park Ward.
From the response to the original proposal, it would appear that the main concern of Carpenders Park residents was to remain as one Ward. With your support this has been achieved.
